TC NEXT is the career resource office here at Teachers College. They offer one-on-one support in career coaching and goal setting, a variety of workshops, employer events, as well as self-navigating resources, including resume templates and the Career Resources Portal for job listings. The office is open to both current students and alumni to ensure that graduates are supported beyond just their time at TC.

We asked members of the TC NEXT team some questions about their office and the events they put on! Read on to learn more.

What is your favorite TC NEXT Event?

“My favorite event at TC NEXT has been the Headshots & Hor D’oeuvres staple event. Our team at the office has worked so hard in continuously fine-tuning the event, so each semester it gets more streamlined. When students enter our office for their headshot, they can use a touch-up station for last minute appearance checks, speak with a career coach for drop-in questions, and get information on LinkedIn profile guidance (as well as grab some tasty snacks while they wait for their headshot appointment). It is a fun, personalized way to connect with students in our community and speak on the importance of networking. Professional headshots are costly and not always a priority for graduate students. Headshots & Hor D’oeuvres provides tangible joy for our students who receive their edited photos free of charge for their portfolios and professional profiles.” — Lucy Byrne, Program Coordinator, Coaching & Programming

What service at TC NEXT is a must-use?

“Our office offers coaching services to all TC students and alumni, accessible via our Career Resources Portal. They can make 30-minute coaching appointments for a more-than-typical resume review. We also offer mock interviews, career exploration, applying for doctoral programs, searching for opportunities, and LinkedIn review sessions. Career peers also see students for 10-minute drop-ins during select hours; they serve as supplementary support until your next appointment.” — Uyanga Mungunchimeg, Employment Partnerships Coordinator

How can students learn about your events and services?

“The Career Resources Portal is our office’s hub for accessing all the events, services, and resources we have to offer. Students and alumni alike can navigate to the portal to explore employment opportunities, TC NEXT event information, career fairs, coaching appointments, and on-campus student employment opportunities. I would highly recommend checking out all the portal has to offer!”  — Vince Ricco; Assistant Director, Communications & Systems

Can you give a brief explanation of the “TC NEXUS”? How does this serve students?

“TC NEXUS is a research-based, theory-informed approach to graduate career services for students in education, leadership, healthcare, and psychology. It is TC NEXT’s core model for how we serve students and alumni using the Guided Pathways model and eight dimensions of wellness. The NEXUS is not a linear model, as students of TC come from various walks of life and have different experiences. It is built for students and alumni to start engaging our services where they feel most comfortable and ready.” — Sabeen Sheikh, EdD; Director

How can alumni use your office?

“Alumni can sign up for one-on-one coaching appointments, take our self-paced Canvas courses like the Job Search Accelerator, and use the many resources on our website and in the Career Resources Portal. They also have access to the job board in the Career Resources Portal, as well as our events, workshops, and so much more.” — Genevieve Thevenin; Career Coach
